Five minutes that set the tone for three days
Handovers are the flashpoint, and the easiest thing to fix.
Same time, same place, every week. Surprises at a handover land on the child, not the adult.
Five minutes: bag, one practical update, goodbye. Anything contentious goes in a message later — never in front of them.
Give permission to enjoy the other home. “Have a lovely time” costs you nothing and takes the loyalty bind off them.
Decide now what you will say at the next handover, and say only that.
Where this comes from: Reducing Parental Conflict; Emery.
